Lough Muskry Hike
€30.00
Lough Muskry, the Galtee Mountains
Discover one of the hidden gems of the Galtee Mountains on this rewarding hike through peaceful woodland, mountain trails and dramatic upland scenery on the northern side of the range.
Starting from the Glengarra Wood Forest Recreation Area, we follow forest tracks through mature woodland before climbing alongside mountain streams. As we leave the forest behind, the landscape opens onto the eastern slopes of Knockastakeen and the foothills of Greenane, revealing sweeping views of the Galtee Mountains and the dramatic cliffs surrounding Lough Muskry.
Before returning by the same route, we’ll visit the hidden gem of Lough Farbreaga, a secluded mountain lake nestled beneath the surrounding peaks.
This is an ideal progression hike for anyone looking to build confidence in mountain terrain. The route offers an excellent introduction to the northern approaches of the Galtee Mountains and is perfect preparation for those considering a future ascent of Galtymore.
As with all mountain walks, there are no facilities along the route. Sturdy footwear, suitable clothing, food and plenty of water are essential, as the terrain can be uneven, rocky and wet underfoot.
