Lough Curra Guided Hike

Lough Curra, the Galtee Mountains
This guided hike takes us from the edge of Glengarra Wood into the dramatic uplands of the Galtee Mountains, following a scenic route to the corrie lake of Lough Curra beneath the slopes of Galtymore. A spectacular corrie lake tucked beneath the cliffs of Galtymór, this is one of the most dramatic and atmospheric spots in the Galtee mountains.
We begin on forest tracks before climbing onto open moorland and hillside paths with expanding views across rugged mountain terrain. Our destination is a secluded alpine-style lake surrounded by steep slopes and wide views, offering a rewarding place to pause before returning the same way.
Please note this is a remote mountain route with no facilities so good footwear, weather protection and adequate food and water for the duration of the walk are essential.
This first step into the high slopes of the Galtees offers a real taste of the terrain above and for many, it’s the walk that inspires the next challenge – standing on the summit of Galtymore itself!
